Captain William Yankowski is a twenty year veteran of the New York State University Police Department. His career began in 1987 at the State University College at Oneonta and in 1988 he transferred to U-Albany where he served as an Officer for fourteen years. Yankowski was promoted to Lieutenant in 2001 and again recently promoted to his present title of Captain in October 2007.
Captain Yankowski is a trained and certified police instructor. He served as the PT instructor for the academy from 1990 to 1994 when he also acted as a training associate for that session. He has certifications in Doppler Traffic Radar, Standardized Field Sobriety Testing and Alcohol breath sample testing (Datamaster). Captain Yankowski is a certified Law Enforcement Bicycle Patrol Officer and has coordinated and instructed several courses hosted here at U-Albany.
Presently the Captain is the department representative for the Albany County Stop DWI Committee. He coordinates and oversees all activities related to alcohol education and enforcement as it relates to UPD.
