Michael Mabee started his law enforcement career working for the Saratoga County Sheriff's Department, joining the New York State University Police Department in 1999 at SUNY Cobleskill. Mabee transferred to the University at Albany in 2002 and was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant in 2009. Lieutenant Mabee serves as one of the department’s Public Information Officers (PIO) charged with maintaining the department’s Facebook page. Lieutenant Mabee also serves as part of the statewide contract negotiations committee for the Agency Police Services Unit.

In 2000 and 2001, Mabee was named Officer of the Year by Schoharie County Stop DWI. Mabee was the recipient of the Lawrence Gaal Award in 2003 for Professional Service and was also awarded the department’s Officer of the Year Award in 2005.

In 2015, Lieutenant Mabee received the Meritorious Unit Recognition for his involvement in the Honor Guard Unit. In 2016, Lieutenant Mabee was the recipient of the FBI-Law Enforcement Executive Development Association’s Trilogy Award after completing the Supervisor, Command, and Executive Leadership Institute training modules.
