The State of New York recently mandated that all police departments submit fingerprints electronically. The state agency that manages fingerprint submissions, and therefore controls implementation of this state mandate, is the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS). Currently, according to DCJS, UPD may no longer provide fingerprint services for civilian prints such as those needed for teaching certificates, internship applications and the like.
According to DCJS a company called L-1 Identity Solutions is the exclusive electronic fingerprint provider for civilian fingerprints. Any person needing fingerprints to submit to New York State agencies such as the Department of Health, the Department of State and various other state agencies must arrange for printing through this company. The company maintains a web site at the link below where those needing prints can locate a fingerprint station and schedule a date and time to have their prints done.
